Changes in the INSS Table: What Really Changed?

Have you noticed a change in the INSS deduction on your payslip? While it might seem like the contribution rate increased, that is not exactly what happened.

What actually changed?

The contribution rates (7.5% to 14%) have not changed. The update was in the bracket limits, following the increase in the Brazilian minimum wage.

How the Progressive Calculation Works

The INSS is calculated progressively, meaning you don’t pay a single rate on your entire salary:

  • One portion is taxed at 7.5%;
  • Another at 9%;
  • And so on, up to 14%.

Real Example (Gross Salary: R$ 5,000.00)

Interestingly, with the new bracket updates, the total deduction can actually be lower:

  • Old Table (2025): Total contribution of R$ 509.60.
  • New Table (2026): Total contribution of R$ 501.83.

This reduction happens because a larger portion of the salary now stays within the lower tax brackets.

Summary: A change in your payslip doesn’t always mean a tax hike; it is often just an update to the contribution table.
