Required Documents

To avoid headaches when filing your tax return, organize your documents in advance! For example, you will need the following documents:

  • Income statements for salaries, pensions, rent, and financial investments;
  • Proof of purchase and sale of assets such as real estate and vehicles;
  • Receipts for medical and educational expenses that can be deducted;
  • Information about dependents (name, CPF, date of birth);
  • DARFs (Federal Tax Payment Documents) paid during the year and donation receipts.

Additionally, if you traded in the stock market or have investments abroad, be prepared to provide this information as well. An important tip! If you have dependents, don’t forget to declare all of their income as well.

Late Filing Penalties

Attention! If you miss the deadline, you may be charged a penalty of 1% per month on the tax due, with a minimum fine of R$ 165.74 and a maximum limited to 20% of the total tax amount.

How to File?

The tax return can be filed using the Federal Revenue program, the “Meu Imposto de Renda” (My Income Tax) app, or through a trusted accountant. According to the Federal Revenue Service, the pre-filled tax return option will only be available starting April 1.
