Annually the social security (called INSS) table which is withheld over salaries’ payment is revised by the Government.
In general this adjustment happens on each January of the year. In 2022 this revision was published on 01/17/2022.
The new social security table for 2022 is as follow:
Salary basis | Rate |
Until 1,212.00 | 7,50% |
From 1,212.01 to 2,427.35 | 9% |
From 2,427.36 to 3,641.03 | 12% |
From 3,641.04 to 7,087.22 | 14% |
The limit of social security to be withheld is BRL828.38.
Main Doubts
What happen to the salaries due to this revision?
Roughly we can say that the lower salaries would pay less social security to the Government. An example of this change:
In 2021
Salary BRL3,000.00
Social security (INSS) withheld BRL277.40
In 2022
Salary BRL3,000.00
Social security (INSS) withheld BRL269.00
What about for higher salaries?
In case of higher salaries that surpass more than R$7k per month would pay a little more. Instead of paying BRL751.99 to social security, it will be BRL828.38 for 2022. An example of this change:
In 2021
Salary BRL15,000.00
Social security (INSS) withheld BRL751.99
In 2022
Salary BRL15,000.00
Social security (INSS) withheld BRL828.38
What about the income tax table?
The income tax table keeps the same. This table has not been adjusted since 2015.
